School Age Room
Our School Age Program
is split into two groups-School Age and School Age Plus. The School Age room
has a maximum of 27 children with 2 teacher. The School Age Plus room /
Homework room has a maximum of 14 children with 1
teacher. The School Age program is
offered before-and-after school with the children taking the bus to and from the
daycare. All busing arrangements are made through your child's school.
The children are also welcome on all P.A. days/holidays when advance notice
is given for attendance. Additional fees will apply.
School Age
Goals...
The
school age room has goals that the teachers have established.
1) To establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment.
2) To support physical, emotional and social development and provide
positive guidance.
3) To reduce arguments between the children and encourage problem
solving.
4) Encourage and support any discussions and logical arguments that
the children make.
5) Encourage the children to express their opinions with the planning
and implementation of the program.
Program...
The
teachers in the room prepare themed weekly program plans. The themes are chosen
to reflect the children's interests and abilities. Every month, a bulletin
board is displayed at the top of the stairs. The board highlights the main
events that are upcoming in the future month.
Homework...
All of
the children are encouraged to do their homework at the daycare, and are
offered help if they need it. The children rotate freely through the homework
room, where they receive individual assistance from the homework teacher. Each child is encouraged to attempt to solve
their problems before seeking out the assistance of a teacher. We feel that
they are mature enough to work things out themselves.
Extra Clothing...
Each
child has a shared or individual locker for their personal belongings. It is
requested that each child have a full change of clothing in their locker at
all times in case it is required. All children are encouraged to have shoes
to be left at the daycare.
Parent
Involvement...
The
school age staff believe that the parents are as much a part of our program
as the children. We are always open to ideas and suggestions, and will answer
any question to the best of our abilities.
P.A. Days...
Children may remain at the centre during their P.A. Days from school at an
additional charge. They are required to provide their own lunch.
On these days these days, the children may remain at the centre for some
planned activities or they may go out on an excursion.
Summer
Camp @ Genesis Junction...
Our summer camp program begins at the end of the school year and
concludes at the end of August. Camp is open from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00
p.m. with before and after camp care available at an additional cost per
week. Our summer camp changes week to week so you child can enjoy a
few weeks of fun or the entire summer without ever doing the same thing
twice. All children are required to bring their own lunch each day.
Spaces are limited so book early. Call the centre for further
information.
