Philosophy
The Genesis Community Daycare Centre and its staff provide a safe, inclusive
learning environment, enriched with Christian values. We understand that each child is uniquely
individual and deserving of an environment that encourages the growth of the
whole child. We safely allow each
child to reach their full potential by allowing them to experiment and express
their own individuality. The needs of
each child are met by providing a ‘child centered’ curriculum that bases
activities and programs on the interests and skills of each child. We promote independence, creativity and
mutual respect for everyone through our age appropriate programs. Our learning
environment is safe and nurturing, recognizing that play is the medium through which children learn,
and is the child’s response to life.
Centre staff are professional, trained and keep up to date. We entwine philosophies and trends to meet
our Childcare needs. The Genesis
Daycare staff and family members work together as a close knit team to
provide the best continuous care possible.

Children's
Activities
Genesis will provide individual and group activities in order to maximize the
opportunity for meaningful learning and play. The Centre intends to provide a
safe, caring, and stimulating environment where children will be encouraged
to express their individuality and to develop a positive self-image and
self-confidence.
Group activities are designed to teach children cooperation, constructive and
appropriate social interaction, and communication skills in an atmosphere of
caring and play. Children develop physical skills appropriate to their stage
of development through structured and free indoor and outdoor play.
Individual activities provide the opportunity to learn self-help and life
skills that are age-appropriate, i.e. dressing and washroom routines, and
creative activities.
Enthusiastic and experienced staff, comprised of qualified
Early Childhood Educators and Assistants, create an atmosphere where
learning, sharing, and play are fun and satisfying.

Discipline
Discipline is carried out in a non-threatening manner that is appropriate to
the child's level of development. We work to ensure health and safety and to promote
self-discipline, respect for the rights of others and respect for property.
Spanking and other forms of corporal punishment are not permitted under any
circumstances.
Methods of discipline are discussed at staff meetings,
and consistent disciplinary measures and agreed upon. Permitted methods of
discipline are:
- Reason/Resolve: In a controlled voice,
explain in simple language the inappropriateness of the behaviour.
- Redirect: If the behaviour
continues, the staff shall redirect the child to an alternate activity.
- Remove: If the behaviour
continues, the child will be removed from the situation for a limited,
supervised period. As soon as the child is ready to return, he or she
will join his or her group.
- Logical Consequences: Follow through with logical
consequences, i.e. if the child continually throws sand, he/she will not
be allowed to play in the sandbox.

Parental Involvement
We ask that a parent spend some time with the child during his or her first
days with us. Subsequently, parents are encouraged to participate in the
program as much as they are able. Parent/Teacher interviews are held twice
yearly and we encourage all parents to communicate with our staff members on
a daily basis.
We welcome all offers of assistance in areas such as volunteer work and
fundraising.
